With several of CTCFD’s short courses currently underway, we look forward to introducing our selection of advanced principles short courses – Eveningwear, Menswear as well as Lingerie offer specific techniques and procedures that our expert practioners will guide students through. We are furthermore excited to offer our Teen Holiday workshop – which has been running successfully for over 10 years and offers a weeklong programme for learners who are interested in pursuing fashion design at a tertiary level but are perhaps slightly unsure as to what it entails. Here are just some of the wonderful opportunities for learning within each course.
Prospective students will have the opportunity to engage in a week’s worth of workshops and activities during the school holidays, that are representative of what current CTCFD students experience – all culminating in a creative project that the learner will complete in the week. Starting with a trip to the Zeitz Mocca museum for inspiration, students will then develop a concept/theme for a reconstructive project. Not only will they have an opportunity to bring their design to life – but to also style their garment for a photoshoot.
Our evening wear short course covers garment technology principles specific to evening wear, including pattern adaptations and garment construction techniques. Students will explore various corsetry designs, as well as different skirt shapes including full circle, fit and flare as well as a gathered skirt. Correct pattern cutting and laying procedures will also be demonstrated.
Our Menswear short course offers students an overview of the garment technology processes – including pattern design and garment construction, with a focus on shirts, waistcoats and trousers.
Our Lingerie Short Course offers an introduction to lingerie principles, where students will gain an understanding of the bra, corset and knicker – adapting basic blocks into lingerie styles, then having the opportunity to engage with correct lingerie sewing applications. Students will be guided in the appropriate fabrications used, as well as add their own design influence through the use of fabrications and trims.
We can’t wait to welcome new students onto our campus and provide them with the best possible fashion experience. Our advanced principles short courses are set to start on Saturday 26th of June 2021 – while our Teen Holiday Workshop will take place from the 12th to 16th of July 2021.
