Each year the third years wait with baited breath for their collection direction. They’ve varied over the years from ‘your favourite movie’ to ‘decades’, and this year’s direction is one of the most exciting yet. Following trends straight off the international runways, the third year’s collection direction is conflict of texture.
Fashion houses such as Chanel incorporated textures in prints, in embellishments, and in the use of different fabrics together in a look.
Prada and Haider Ackermann’s collections show a more toned-down interpretation of the trend, opting to work with fabric texture, and a small amount of print rather than embellishments.
On the opposite end of the scale, McQueen’s Sarah Burton went all out embellishment; juxtaposing her high-shine, bejewelled garments with soft fabrics for a collection reminiscent of period costume. Her texture clash didn’t end at the garments, however. She also chose to embellish accessories such as shoes and gloves for a complete look.
Both Lanvin and Louis Vuitton worked with embellishment as well as clashing textures and textiles. Louis Vuitton, especially went all out with their use of different fabrics, one look in particular showing a tweed coat with a sequinned ombre’d effect over a satin slip with lace detailing.
CTCFD can’t wait to see what our students are going to create for the end of the year!
