Currently in its 51st year, CTCFD’s mission is to produce graduates who possess the knowledge, skills, passion and work ethic to be highly employable in their field. The longest standing qualification is the 3 Year Diploma in Fashion Design (NQF Level 6), accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee of the Council of Higher Education.

The Diploma offers a strong focus on both Fashion Design and Garment Technology, supported by a variety of year long academic courses such as History of Design, Textiles, Business Studies and Buying Principles. This well-rounded approach offers the student a holistic view of the fashion industry, allowing CTCFD’s graduates to pursue careers in a variety of different areas including among others: Fashion Designer, Trend Forecaster, Patternmaker, Buyer, Merchandiser, Visual Merchandiser, and Stylist.

The 3 Year Diploma can be extended to a fourth year, offering the student an Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7). Through this additional year of study, students have the opportunity to complete extensive internships with leading fashion retailers and independent designers according to their area of interest and study. Each student will complete a written report, guided by leading academic mentors, and completes a collection which will be featured at CTCFDs annual fashion show in November.

For students looking to learn the fundamentals of Fashion Design and Garment Technology, CTCFD’s 30 week Certificate in Foundation Fashion Design is ideal. Offering a broad overview of the field of fashion principles, this Certificate allows students who have completed additional studies; or those who have not successfully achieved their matric pass to receive an introductory course in Fashion Design. The Foundation Fashion Design Certificate also serves as a bridging platform to gain access into the Diploma qualification, and is accredited through City & Guilds of London, offering an exit level 2 Certificate in Fashion Wear.

On completion of this Certificate, students will learn the basics of fashion design and garment technology as well as have exposure to introductory modules of fashion branding, textiles and trend analysis. Students also have the opportunity to complete a garment that will be features at CTCFD’s annual fashion show in November.

CTCFD’s sister college, in Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs is The Fashion Institute of Garment Technology. Accredited through City & Guilds of London, this 2 year vocational training course offers a Level 3 Diploma in Fashion & Garment Technology. The 2 year skills based course provides students with a thorough knowledge of the Garment Technology Principles of patternmaking and garment construction in combination with fashion illustration and design methods.

In recognition to the resurging growth in the manufacturing sector in South Africa, this 2 year course is ideal to aspirant designers who desire to produce their own garments and specialize in garment construction and patternmaking.

Available in both the Northern & Southern Suburbs, CTCFD also offers a number of successful short courses. These courses, which run on Saturday mornings, are ideal for students who work full time. With the highly popular Fashion Design & Garment Technology courses continuing into 2017, CTCFD will be introducing a number of Design-to-Make short courses specializing in areas such as Children’s Wear and Lingerie.

2017 also sees the introduction of an exciting new division of CTCFD’s short courses – exclusive industry partnerships with internationally recognised members of the industry.
