CTCFD is excited to announce 3 final year students as finalists in the Foschini Design Awards 2016. Having successfully completed two rounds of judging, the three students are now busy completing a 3 look mini ready-to-wear collection.
Having been offered a very broad direction for the competition, each of the designers is able to explore their favourite current trends to inform their designs.
Amber-Rose Hennings describes her collection as “inspired by street style, off duty models, style bloggers and how they interpret their own style through texture, colour, and different silhouettes”. Hennings will incorporate pleating, loose knits and playing with different textures such as suede, faux fur and pleather.
Rebecca Odendaal’s current collection takes inspiration from different textures and layering. She explains, “I’ll be incorporating small unique details to classic silhouettes to set my collection apart”. Odendaal will be fusing amber tones with a neutral colour palette in her resort inspired collection.
Tara Simeon’s collection entitled ‘Layers’ is inspired by art, continuing her inspiration behind her conceptual garment from round 2 of the competition which had wet paint splatters.”It is my intention to turn this into a more commercially driven collection,” Simeon explains. “I’m looking at Japanese silhouettes for this collection,” she explains. “I’m very inspired by the flared nature of current Japanese designers”.
The students’ collections will be submitted for judging in mid-May, with the announcement of the three winners taking place at a prestigious event on 26 May 2016. Good luck to our students in the run up to the announcement!
