
Our first round of short courses for 2022 are starting on the 5th of March! If you are interested in fashion and understanding basic principles of design and retail, or are interested in pursuing a new skill – we have some amazing courses on offer for you. Our courses set to start in March include : Fashion 101, Learn Sewing Basics, Digital Fashion Application, Garment Technology Foundation Principles, Introduction to Fashion Buying, and Lingerie (Advanced Course). Fashion 101 aims to teach the fundamental principles of fashion illustration as well as the various elements involved in creating an achievable design. Students will gain an understanding of various illustration techniques as well as components that are essential in the fashion design sector. These include: How to Draw Fashion Faces, Hands & Feet, Fashion Figures, Texture & Print Rendering, Hand Rendered Technical Drawings, Moodboards, Storyboards and Garment Realization.

Learn Sewing Basics provides the basic fundamentals of sewing, such as using a sewing machine, insert elastic, zips, buttons and hems. Learn how to read store bought patterns, analyse measurements and learn to construct garments utilizing patterns provided. All the basics will be covered, and two exciting projects will be completed. This module starts with the absolute basics and is highly suitable to those who have no previous experience with sewing and patterns.

Digital Fashion Application Short Course offers an in depth look at the fashion industry’s most used programmes: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Students will be guided through basic navigation, and later the fashion application of each with special attention to Digital Technical Drawings using Adobe Illustrator, Digital Rednering using Adobe Photoshop, and correct layout of trendboards suing Adobe InDesign.

The Garment Technology Foundation Course introduces students to pattern design and garment construction techniques through practical application – focusing on the female bodice, skirt and trousers. It provides insight into the complete process, from pattern drafting and manipulation through to cutting and completion of garments. By the end of the course, not only will students have an understanding of basic pattern manipulation and garment construction, they will be armed with the knowledge of drafting well fitting blacks that form the base of every garment.

Introduction to Fashion Buying is designed as an introductory course, offering an overview into the buying process for the fashion retail sector. This includes: the role of a fashion buyer, an overview of the buying cycle, analysis of customer profiles as well as trend and retail analysis, sourcing merchandise and range planning.

Our Lingerie Short Course offers an introduction to lingerie principles, where students will gain an understanding of the bra, corset and knicker – adapting basic blocks into lingerie styles, then having the opportunity to engage with correct lingerie sewing applications. Students will be guided in the appropriate fabrications used, as well as add their own design influence through the use of fabrications and trims.
